Live Together, Die Alone
My world is filled with some great clients, and sometimes the things they say take me by surprise! Yesterday, I had a wonderful client of mine (who I primarily do websites for) call and I could tell he was worrying about what he had to tell me.
Toward the end of our call, he mentioned that another web designer had contacted him who works in WordPress (which is my forte for web). He said he wanted to hire this guy to do some work for him mostly as overflow when I couldn’t get to things. My client was very kind in telling me this and reassured me multiple times that my work wasn’t going to be handed over to this new developer.
When I told him I thought it was a great idea to have another person on the team who could do web design, he was completely shocked. He assumed I would be upset, as many designers had been that he worked with before. He explained that not many people understand the power of a team formed from individual talent.
I know this is a long post, but bare with me… I was honestly surprised that he was shocked. Being part of a team is how I got to where I am today, not by doing everything myself. More individually talented people should be willing to share their load and be a part of different teams in order to share their skills. That’s how we make a better life for one another and not just for our own personal gain.
In the words of Jack Shepherd,
“Live together, die alone.”
(You’re welcome, Lost fans) It’s funny how true those words are even in the most insignificant of situations. I challenge you all to go about the rest of your week with a team mindset while putting your own selfish goals and thoughts aside.
I’m not always good at this so I’ll take the challenge along with you!
